Men’s Health

Are you putting your health at risk by not looking after yourself?
Is there a family history of disease?
How long since you last had a medical check-up?
Don’t wait until you’re unwell… be pro-active and ask us now about our men’s health check. We understand men are often hesitant to seek help for health issues. It may be difficult to talk about these sensitive problems but we encourage you to seek treatment before a minor issue becomes a major problem.
We offer a range of health services specifically tailored for men, providing a caring approach and friendly environment to make our male patients feel as comfortable as possible in their examinations. In most cases the complication is far worse than the actual experience. Our goal is to promote the health and wellbeing of the male lifestyle.
We offer a compassionate and caring service to help treat the following conditions:
• Prostate screening
• Bladder problems
• Erectile dysfunction
• Sexual problems and STD assessments
• Cardiac assessment and general health checks
• Preventative health screens (simple bowel cancer screens and blood pressure checks can often prevent the onset or severity of major health issues later down the track)
If you are between 45 and 49 years of age we can perform a health assessment for you and it will be bulk billed.

Spirometry

Spirometry is an accurate breathing test for asthma and COPD (emphysema). It measures your overall lung function by assessing the amount of air you can breathe in and out of your lungs and how hard and fast you can breathe out. The test is not painful.
The machine used to do the test is called a Spirometer. Our GP and Practice Nurse will use a Spirometer to:
• Check whether the airways in your lungs are narrower than they should be
• Confirm whether you have asthma or COPD
• Work out how severe your asthma or COPD is
• See if your asthma or COPD is getting better or worse with treatment
The test results help you and your GP decide whether you need any medicines or work out whether the type or dose of your current medicine needs to change.

Iron Infusion

Iron deficiency anaemia is common and can cause a significant number of symptoms. Iron infusions can help top up low iron stores with a quick intravenous infusion using ‘Ferinject’. This product is safe for most patients including those in pregnancy (2nd and 3rd trimester only).
Your doctor will insert an IV cannula into your arm and you will be monitored by an experienced clinical nurse whilst the infusion is taking place. There are generally very few side effects with this product, the commonest being nausea, dizziness and headache but even these are rare. It is safe to drive after your infusion although we would suggest you allow an hour to be here in total for the procedure and observation.
We will provide you with a pathology form to recheck your iron levels about 2 months after the infusion. If you would like to book in for an iron infusion, you will need a consultation with your GP first. Please see one of our GP’s who will discuss this further with you and provide you with a script of Ferinject.

Ingrown Toenail Wedge Resection

If you drive as a profession, whether it be a heavy vehicle, public passenger vehicle or dangerous goods vehicle, each brings with it additional demands associated with the vehicle or task associated with the job.

The medicine is released slowly into the body. The rod can remain in place and provide continuous contraception for up to 3 years.

Ear Syringing

Earwax is properly known as cerumen. Cerumen is normal and is designed to trap things like dirt/dust and acts to protect the lining of the ear. It is continuously produced and is gradually moved towards the entrance of the ear by the self-cleaning mechanism of the skin and by the action of muscles used in chewing and talking. Wax may appear to be dry and flaky, or crumbly consistency, honey coloured or dark brown and very hard when it may become quite firmly attached to the underlying skin. However, some people experience problems, and ear syringing is one way of removing excessive amounts of earwax.
